Dear Hamilton,
Remember the party I told you about the Monday? Well,
I decided to go. It was fun and nice to be around people
my own age for a change. Lawrence turned out to be a
pretty nice guy. Since you said to tell you about it if
I went, I thought I would go ahead and do it in email that
way phone time could be devoted to better stuff ;) This
is what happened: Ryder and I drove out to Lawrence's
cottage (actually his parents) after the show. Since
we were pretty late getting there it was well underway.
A lot of people were drinking, but no one was forcing
alcohol on us when we walked through the door...good.
You should have seen how freaked Ryder looked when we
walked in. He introduced me to a few people he knew
then left me in search of, he said, Scotch. A second
later this guy came up and asked me if I wanted some
champagne. You may not know this about me, but I'm
kind of addicted to that stuff. So he poured me a
glass then asked me who I came with. I said Ryder and
he said, "American...I should have known." I didn't
really know what he meant, but before I thought about
it too hard he said, "well, I'm Lawrence." I looked
around for Ryder, but didn't see him. I asked Lawrence
what we were celebrating since he was carrying around
the bottle of champagne. He said he didn't know, but
that it felt like the right beverage at the moment.
Then Ryder came out of another room carrying his glass
of, I guess, Scotch. He looked over at me then he saw
Lawrence. Hamilton, any doubt I might have still had
over Ryder's "I'm gay" story completely disappeared in
that moment. He looked scared and exposed and...the
most not like Ryder I've ever seen. Lawrence is like
this happy-go-lucky, hyper, punky sort of guy so he
ran over to Ryder and gave him this huge hug (after
handing me the champagne). And Ryder looked over at
me for just a second then took Lawrence into a room
and stayed there for a LONG time. There was a lot
of loud Brit punk music playing and a lot of terribly
boring British boys telling me what a cool accent I
have. So I pretty much hung out on the couch listening
to the music. After what seemed like forever, Lawrence
walked out of the room. His smirk and cockiness had
been replaced by an inquisitive smile. He came back
over to me and sat down on the couch. He looked over
at me and said, "just when I think my life has hit the
pinnacle of boredem, things get interesting." I handed
him the champagne which is what I think he came for in
the first place. Then he said, "it was a pleasure to
meet you, Jacqueline" which was interesting since I
had not told him my name. So, I didn't do much social-
izing, and Ryder and I finally left around 3 a.m. (Mom
was not amused, by the way). He was very quiet, but
I think he was happy. Okay, the end. Cue the over-
used Louis Armstrong song. I can't wait to talk to
you again.
Love <3
Jake
